Spring Fertilization
Getting your lawn off to a good start requires an early spring fertilization, unless you used a slow release organic fertilizer late last fall. Why? Your lawn is just waking up. The weeds usually get started at the same time or sooner. The goal from early spring fertilization is to get your lawn thick and tall as fast as possible. |
This will help to crowd out many weeds making weed control applications less necessary
Spring – 3 simple steps to a healthier lawn.
1) Lightly rake debris off lawn. Along the street/driveway/sidewalk you need to use a shop broom to get the salt and sand off of your lawn. This area will commonly be overrun with crabgrass if not properly prepared early in the spring. 2) Over seeding now will thicken in bare areas that died or have snow mold Fertilize with an organic fertilizer that will not damage new seed. |
3) Get excessive weeds under control now and plan for the future, i.e. crabgrass prevention.
Organic weed management systems are available for this such as Corn Gluten Meal, Plant Proteins, Horticultural Vinegar, High fiber mulches, pH adjustments, Seeding, Proper mowing heights (see mowing) and watering schedules. |
